Dr Adrian Brisku is an intellectual and comparative historian working as a Senior Post Doctoral fellow (Grantee of FWF) at Institut für Osteuropäische Geschichte, Der Universität Wien, and Associate Professor at the Institute of International Studies, Charles University. Dr Brisku has published several impact-factor and peer-reviewed articles on European identity, political economy, reform, nationalism with particular focus on nineteenth-century Ottoman and Russian empires, as well as on modern history of the Balkans and South Caucasus, especially of Albania and Georgia.
He is the author of two monographs: Bittersweet Europe: Albanian and Georgian Discourses on Europe, 1878-2008(New York: London, Berghahn Books, 2013) and Political Reform in the Ottoman and Russian Empires: A Comparative Approach (London: Bloomsbury Academics, 2017) and co-author of The Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic of 1918: Federal Aspirations, Geopolitics and National Projects (London: Routledge, 2021).
Dr Brisku has been a recipient of several MA (Sussex University in Brighton and Central European University in Budapest) and PhD (European University Institute, Florence) grants, two postdoctoral fellowships (ERC-funded at the University of Helsinki, and at Charles University) and Senior Post-doctoral fellowship, Lise Meitner of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), with a project titled ‘National Economy-Building in Albania, Czechoslovakia and Georgia in the 1920s’.
