The “Soviet Myth” (1917–56): Notes for a Reassessment

For communists, but also many others in the 20th century, the Soviet Union represented an enigmatic source of authority and attraction, not only a provider of resources. Despite the «Soviet myth» being a powerful factor, historiography has rarely approached this topic directly. This presentation confronts a case study – early communist networks between Vienna and Berlin – with a literature review.
